Tony Blair is one of the most consequential global figures of our time.

Journalist and presenter Carla Vilhena is known for her decades-long work on Brazil’s main TV channels, notably TV Globo, Band, CNN and, recently, SBT. But this is just one side of a successful and varied career. Carla started in TV before college, as an image editor and, at 18, she was a newsreader on TVE, now TV Brasil. After a stint at Rede Manchete, in 1992, Carla arrived in São Paulo to replace Marília Gabriela at Rede Bandeirantes, now Band. For five years, she presented programs and newscasts, and was the head of Jornal Bandeirantes and Jornal da Noite. In 1997, Carla was hired by TV Globo and was soon called upon to present Fantástico. She was on all the channel’s news programs, and in 1999 she joined Jornal Nacional. Carla is the longest-serving woman at the head of local news programs in São Paulo. She spent eight years at SPTV and three on Bom Dia SP. In addition to Jornal Nacional, in the last five years at Globo she was a special reporter for Fantástico. In 2016, at Fantástico, she won a CNT Journalism award for work during the 2014 World Cup. In addition to Portuguese, Carla speaks English, French, Spanish, German and Italian, having lived in Italy. She is a reporter and editor of her own stories. In 2018, Carla announced her departure from Globo. Since then, she has been working in corporate communications, media training, events, business training, and advertising.

Marcos has solid experience in the insurance market in actuarial topics, corporate investments, asset and liability management, mergers and acquisitions, capital management, risk management, governance, and internal controls. He has worked for 13 years at SulAmérica as an actuary, superintendent of corporate risk management and internal controls, as well as superintendent of investments. Currently, he is responsible for overseeing actuarial matters at Prudential Brazil and supports CNseg as chairman of the actuarial committee.

Paula Ferreira is CEO of Reinsurance Solutions for Latin America at Aon. She has 27 years of working experience in the industry, having worked in Latin America, Europe, and the US. Paula is also co-leader of Innovation for Aon LatAm across all solution lines. She has 14 years at Aon, where she had different leadership roles, including Strategic Growth Leader, leader of Analytics and Clients Segments. Raquel Balarinis the Editorial Director of Infomoney, one of the largest investment, finance, and business media outlets in Brazil. She is the former director of communications and marketing at Bee4, and former director of digital content at Valor Econômico, a media outlet she helped found and where she worked for almost 20 years. She won an Esso Award for economic journalism, and has a career spanning 35 years, having graduated in journalism from USP.

André Medici graduated in Public Administration from FGV, and holds a masters degree in Economics from UNICAMP, and a doctorate in Economic History from USP. He was a former senior economist at the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) and World Bank in Washington (DC), from 1996 to 2020, when he retired. He is now an international consultant for multilateral organizations (the World Bank, IDB, UN-DESA), global drug institutions and companies, and Brazilian entities in supplementary healthcare. He is the executive director of Universal Health Monitor.

Clarisse Kopff began her career at Lehman Brothers in London in 1996, where she worked in the Debt Origination Department. She was an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Paris before moving to Euler Hermes in 2001, the Credit Insurance arm of Allianz. After holding various positions in Controllership and later, more broadly, as Head of the Accounting, Controllership, Actuarial Services and Investor Relations Group, she was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Euler Hermes Group, in 2014. In this position, she was responsible for the Group’s financial division, and for investments, mergers and acquisitions, legal and compliance. She led the purchase of minority shares by Allianz SE and the delisting of Euler Hermes, before being appointed CFO of Allianz France in early 2018. In January 2021, Clarisse was promoted to Executive Director of the Euler Hermes Group, which now operates under the Allianz Trade brand. In December 2022, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of Munich Reinsurance Company, where she is responsible for the Europe and Latin America division, including Global Credit.

In a career spanning four decades in reinsurance, having worked in claims and underwriting, the vice president of IRB, Daniel Castillo, has held national and regional leadership positions around the world. He has a degree in civil engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio Grande do Sul and an MBA from  Queen’s University, in Canada.

Isabelle is the global insurance leader at EY. An executive editor with more than 20 years experience in journalism, she has been the director of the BandNews FM radio station for 10 years and a presenter since 2006.  She is the anchor of the station’s morning news. He has been working in the insurance business for four decades and has held positions in companies such as Sul América, Finasa, Axa, and Generali Seguros, in addition to having been CEO of Azul Seguros from 2004 to 2009, always supporting the development of the sector by sharing his knowledge. In 2010, Roberto became the director general of Porto and, in 2017, executive vice president of the company. In 2018 he was made CEO, tasked with gaining the company recognition beyond auto insurance. The Porto group now owns 27 companies and is positioned as a complete ecosystem of protection solutions that operates in three business verticals: Porto Seguro, Porto Saúde, and Porto Bank.

He has been at Banco do Brasil for 23 years. He was a member of the Executive Board of BB and General Manager of the Strategic Business Unit for Private Individuals, SMEs, and Agro. He also served as State Superintendent in Santa Catarina and Executive Manager of the Federal District Distribution Board. Krugman the Economist: Paul Krugman won the 2008 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his groundbreaking work on international trade and economic geography. (Here is a description in his own words of the work for which he won the Prize.) He is the author or editor of 20 books and more than 200 papers in professional journals and edited volumes.

Professor Krugman is one of the founders of the “new trade theory,” a major rethinking of the theory of international trade, for which he also received the John Bates Clark medal in 1991 from the American Economic Association, a prize given every two years to “that economist under forty who is adjudged to have made a significant contribution to economic knowledge.”

He also is the leading pioneer in economic geography — the economic dynamics that determine how and why certain places (like Silicon Valley) end up specializing economically and the advantages this kind of clustering brings to companies and economies. For example, there has been no important commercial traffic on the Erie Canal since 1850, yet the head start that canal gave to New York City has allowed New York to remain the largest US city and its major commercial center to this day.

The overarching theme to his work: bringing the theory of increasing returns into the economic mainstream. ‘Increasing returns’ is the technical term for the phenomenon that success tends to breed further success—that economics is dynamic, not static, and that the multiple choices available to economies eventually get sorted out through the accumulation of initial advantages that may be accidents of history. He’s applied increasing returns theory to international trade and geographic clustering.

Currently, he serves as Managing Director at Allen & Co LLC, a private investment bank based in New York; a position he has held since February 2021. Moreno is the former President and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB), the leading and principal source of long-term financing for Latin America and the Caribbean; a position he held for 15 years. During his tenure, Moreno transformed the IDB by, among other things: increasing the Bank’s financial strength by optimizing the use of its capital, revamping its private sector affiliations (IDB Invest) and innovation laboratory (IDB Lab), standardizing gender and diversity objectives as part of its public and private sector programs, pushing for the adoption of new technologies and innovation to increase the impact and efficiency of the Bank’s operations and, leading the organization through a an unprecedented operational response in support of member countries during the onset of COVID-19 pandemic.

Latin America is an enigma. While the media publishes headlines about protests, crime, inequity, populism, and debt, those seven hundred million people who live and work in this region face a reality that is infinitely more complex, amazing, and, on several occasions, encouraging.

Few people understand this duality more intimately than Luis Alberto Moreno. Patricia Freitas is the President and CEO of Prudential Brazil since January 2023. She joined Prudential in 2015 as Vice President of Multichannel Strategic Partnerships and led the significant growth of the insurance company through commercial partnerships. Patricia has a long executive career, having worked in companies such as IBM, Unisys, and Microsoft. She holds a degree in Computer Science from the Federal Fluminense University and has earned MBAs from IBMEC and the School of Insurance Business.

André Medici graduated in Public Administration from FGV, and holds a masters degree in Economics from UNICAMP, and a doctorate in Economic History from USP. He was a former senior economist at the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) and World Bank in Washington (DC), from 1996 to 2020, when he retired. He is now an international consultant for multilateral organizations (the World Bank, IDB, UN-DESA), global drug institutions and companies, and Brazilian entities in supplementary healthcare. He is the executive director of Universal Health Monitor.

A journalist with more than 30 years’ experience, she has covered the economy and business in some of the main media outlets in Brazil, such as Valor Econômico, Agência Estado, and O Globo. Currently, she is the executive editor of IM Business, the business website of InfoMoney. She holds a degree in journalism from PUC-SP and an MBA in Economic-Financial Information and Capital Markets from FIA.

Dr. Barbara Buchner is global managing director of Climate Policy Initiative. Named one of the 20 most influential women in climate change and one of the 100 most influential people in climate policy, Barbara advises leaders on climate, energy, and land use investments around the world.

Deborah joined Howden in 2018 and is the Global Head of Sustainable Energy. With Howden’s senior management, she formed and launched the newly established sustainable energy division in October2020. Previously, she worked at  Swiss Re, where she spent 16 years in various technical underwriting divisions for the energy sector, handling clients worldwide, with a particular focus on renewables. She led renewable energy solutions and oversaw global underwriting. She was also instrumental in building the company’s global rating tool for offshore wind and subsea cable assets (construction and operation). Deborah holds a master’s  degree n energy management.

David Legher is the regional CEO of Prudential Latin America, responsible for the units in Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico, along with joint ventures in Chile, Colombia and Peru. The executive joined Prudential do Brasil in May 2019 as CEO and Executive Director. With extensive experience in consumer and insurance brands, David worked for over 15 years at Avon Products and held several CEO positions in South America, and Operations positions in Brazil, Mexico and Central America. Prior to Avon, David worked at Sura Seguros, a Colombian life and health insurance company, and held leadership roles in IT, Operations, Bancassurance, Mergers and Acquisitions. David was also a board member at Sura in Brazil. With a degree in information systems engineering, he also has a master’s degree in insurance and risk management from City University Business School, in England, and in International Business from EAFIT University, in Colombia.

With more than 20 years in the market, Kaspar Mueller is the president of reinsurance in Latin America at Swiss Re. Mueller started his career as a financial analyst for alternative investments at Swiss Re. Subsequently, he worked for a management consulting firm with insurance and banking clients. upon rejoining Swiss Re, he spent three years in New York as the Regional Head of Strategy and Operations for the Americas, and then became Swiss Re Chief Operating Officer for Reinsurance. He has a masters degree in finance from the University of Zürich and is a CFA Charter Holder.

Maria recently took over as the head of the Institute for Climate and Society, after leaving the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where she was a principal specialist. At both the IDB and the New Development Bank, where she was head of the financial institutions division, she worked on the development of innovative financing programs and strategies to promote private sector investments in low-carbon and resilient projects. Previously, she worked at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). She also served for more than ten years at the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). She holds a master’s degree in economics from the Geneva Institute of International Studies.

With a background in journalism at major broadcasters, Andressa Guarana holds a prominent position at Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicação. Currently, she is the Editorial Director of journalism for TV Band and host of BandNews TV.

She has extensive experience in the planning and supervision of major national and international coverage, including the definition of editorial lines and management of daily journalistic production processes. During her 16 years with Grupo Bandeirantes, she has been responsible for organizing coverage of all the elections and coordinated the production of dozens of presidential, state and municipal debates. Andressa is a member of Weforum, and an ambassador for Women Doing Business, groups for which she also serves as a mediator, master of ceremonies, and speaker.

Gerry Glombicki is a Senior Director at Fitch Ratings based in Chicago, illinois covering large global insurance companies for the past 22 years and has completed a secondment in Fitch’s London office. Gerry also Chairs Fitch’s Cyber Common interest group which is global cross section of information security professionals and cross sector rating analysts.

Gerry has a bachelor’s of Science in Finance, a Master’s of Business Administration, and a Master’s of Science in Accountancy from DePaul University.  in addition, Gerry holds the following professional designations: certified public accountant (cpa), certified information security systems professional (cissp), certified cloud security professional (ccsp), certified information systems auditor (cisa) and an associate in risk management (arm). Gerry is a frequent author and speaker on cybersecurity risk and cyber insurance.

Mr. Itriago is a 23-year International Award-Winning Insurance Expert and Insurtech Influencer. Working in markets such as the UK, the Baltics, and LATAM with RSA Insurance Group over a 16-year career, he was able to specialized in Operations and Technology from small to large businesses, successfully delivering multi-region transformation programs and growth enabling capabilities. He was instrumental in building capabilities that delivered CAGR of 19.4% between 2010 and 2014 in RSA LATAM, and ultimately responsible for successfully selling the Regional businesses to Grupo Suramericana of Colombia in 2016.

In late 2016 Mr. Itriago started a new chapter in his career as an Insurtech Entrepreneur, co-founding and being the CEO of Bullfrog Ventures, the first Insurtech ecosystem in LATAM, also co-creator of the InsurtechMap.com, developed as a Joint Venture with Chubb (NYSE: CB). Bullfrog was successfully acquired by Rokk3r Inc. (OTC: ROKK) in 2019, the first Latin American Insurtech-focussed business sold to a Public Company. He later joined NetBrokrs, an international Broker Network focusing on delivering digital capabilities for its members through investments in Insurtechs such as Clupp.com.mx among others.

Today he leads BOXX Insurance as President of the USA business. BOXX is a Canadian company and a Zurich Insurance invested Cyber Insurtech. He is based in Miami, Florida where he also serves as Chairman of LATAM Insurtech, an Insurtech accelerator platform fueled by BrokerTech Ventures.

He holds a BA from Universidad Metropolitana in Venezuela and an Advanced Certificate for Executives (ACE) in Management, Innovation and Technology from MIT Sloan School of Management.

Professor Talesh is an interdisciplinary scholar whose work spans law, sociology, and political science. his research interests include the empirical study of law and business organizations, dispute resolution, consumer protection, insurance, and the relationship between law and social inequality. Professor Talesh is considered one of the leading scholars on organizational responses to Law and Compliance and the Relationship between insurance, regulation and inequality.

Talesh’s empirical research addresses the intersection between organizations, risk, and consumer protection laws, focusing on private organizations’ responses to and constructions of laws designed to regulate them, consumers’ mobilization of their legal rights and the legal cultures of private organizations. His most recent research focuses on how cyber insurance and insurance companies shape cybersecurity and privacy law compliance among private organizations. He previously published multiple articles on how insurance companies, through employment practice liability insurance, construct the meaning of compliance with anti-discrimination laws.

Talesh’s scholarship has appeared in multiple law and peer-reviewed social science journals including law and society review, law & social inquiry, and law & policy, and has won multiple awards in sociology, political science and law & society.

Professor Talesh’s prominence as a scholar has led to elected and appointed leadership positions in national organizations. He chaired the sociology of law section of the American Sociological Association (asa) in 2020-21. He was also elected chair of the American Association of Law school’s insurance law section in 2019, after previously serving as elected secretary, and treasurer. in 2022, Professor Talesh was elected a fellow of the American bar foundation (abf). Membership is limited to just one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. He is currently Co-editor of Law & Society Review.

Having 38 years of experience in the insurance market, Sidney Cezarino currently serves as the Director of Property Insurance at Tokio Marine Seguradora. Among his responsibilities, he is in charge of leading and managing the areas responsible for the following products: Property (Named Risks/Operational Risks and Commercial); Engineering Risks/Civil Liability for Construction Projects; Energy (Oil Risks); Marine (Builder Risks, Port Operator, and Marine/Hull); Aviation Insurance; and Miscellaneous Risks. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering, has a postgraduate degree in General Administration, an MBA in Business Management, and is certified as an AIRM – Alarys International Risk Manager.
