FIDES Rio 2023 is here

FIDES Rio 2023, the largest insurance conference in the Americas and the Iberian Peninsula, begins on Sunday, September 24. This, the 38th FIDES Conference, marks the return of the biannual conference to an in-person format, after the critical period of the pandemic. For three days, the international event’s participants will be in Rio de Janeiro to debate the central theme of the meeting: “Insurance for a more sustainable world.”

At the Windsor Hotels & Convention Center in Barra da Tijuca, the event will also feature the launch of ExpoFides – an exhibition space for insurance companies and agents – at 6 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a cocktail reception at 7 p.m. FIDES Rio 2023 is already a historic edition, welcoming 1,800 participants, representing more than 300 companies in 41 countries.

“FIDES Rio 2023 will discuss some very important topics for the insurance industry at this moment in time,” sums up the president of Brazil’s National Confederation of Insurers (CNseg), Dyogo Oliveira, the event’s host. He adds, “The agenda includes the sector’s future prospects and contributions to the development of the economy and to improving people’s quality of life and, above all, debates about the climate transition and sustainability.”

High-level debates

Coinciding with the start of spring in Brazil, the conference will feature internationally renowned speakers (former British prime minister, Tony Blair, 2008 economics Nobel Prize-winner, Paul Krugman and former president of the Inter-American Development Bank, Luis Alberto Moreno), expert panelists, public officials, executives and agents from the insurance and reinsurance sector in different countries.

On Monday (September 25) and Tuesday (September 26), there will be high-level debates on subjects such as climate change, ESG best practices, increasing longevity, digital transformation and new technologies, the development of new products and services, cybersecurity, the macroeconomic context and the regulatory environment. Biannual meeting

The event has been held every two years by the Inter-American Federation of Insurance Companies (FIDES) since 1946. This will be Rio de Janeiro’s third time hosting an edition of the Western Hemisphere Insurance Conference. The other two times were the 5th and 17th editions, in 1954 and 1979, respectively. The first FIDES meeting took place in New York.
